Besides adding no additional value to the web and plagiarizing someone else’s work, if they’re incorrect, these tabs get perpetuated. Especially on Ultimate-Guitar, the star rating system can help you find the most accurate version.Ī lot of ukulele tab sites copy/paste songs from elsewhere on the internet. While you can find almost any popular song on these sites, be aware that the quality of these tabs vary with the skill of the transcriber. ![]() There are lots of user-sourced tab sites that get a ton of traffic, such as the massive and even massive-er. ![]() Where to Find More Ukulele Tabs Free Tabs Here’s a C:įor much more, check out this guide to reading tab for better understanding the lines, numbers, and symbols. The above example is all played on the A-string: 3rd fret, 5th fret, 7th fret, 3rd fret.Īnytime you see numbers stacked vertically you should play them simultaneously as a chord. This shows the open strings being plucked one at a time from the top string down. Numbers placed on the lines show which fret to press down and are read left to right. Also, I've found the GP folk to be very nice and helpful when I've had questions.Think of it as rolling the uke out and down flat on your lap. for fingerstyle stuff (GP is pretty lousy for this), but there is such a vast amount of good GP tabs out there that I've found it hugely useful for my learning. Is it Microsoft's fault that the copyright violation wasn't produced in a more convenient format?įor what it's worth, I have and have paid for both Guitar Pro and TablEdit I think TablEdit is much better for working on my own tabs, esp. This seems no different from someone typing a Salinger short story into Microsoft Word and sending that around, requiring you to have an expensive closed program in order to read it (except that in this case there a plenty of tools available to read Word files). Why aren't you blaming the tabber (who presumably did not pay Fahey for the copyright either)? Guitar Pro has nothing to do with this tab. This person could have done it in ASCII, or used Guitar Pro to generate a PDF and sent that around, or used TablEdit. But SOMEONE ELSE thought it was a good program, chose to use it for this tab, and wrote and distributed a tab in this format. They have a closed format, which is annoying, yes. I'm not clear why you hold Guitar Pro responsible for this. So - get the Guitar Pro tab, get the convert program and get TefView - convert the tab to TablEdit format and then print it with TefView. More than this - a third party program (WG2T.exe) is now available from a few sites (also from the TablEdit registered users pages) which will convert Guitar Pro and PowerTab tabs to TablEdit format. BUT a difference is that the TablEdit author has produced a player program (TefView) which allows tab users to see and play the tab - and most importantly to print it without any timeout to force purchase of the full product. Personally I use TablEdit - and yes, I did pay for the full product - because I wanted to generate my own tabs for my arrangements and those of my friends so that I could put them up for free download at my website. However, I would agree that how the programmer handles the files and either makes them available or not is something which 'users' may want to consider for the future. Most file structures are unique as each programmer writes what they feel is necessary in the way they want. It isn't quite the way you are looking at it mate - any software product which produces printable output has to have a file structure to save the file. So - they're just scum trying to make money off of others' work while locking their product up. (if the company has a private legal agreement with the Fahey's copyright owners that would be a different thing. But please don't lock up a tab for music YOU DIDN'T WRITE! For some people, these features might be nice and useful. Now, not only do I not want to buy their software - I absolutely hate the company. Unfortunately, the demo won't let me print it out and it will timeout (die) within fifteen days. I don't want to pay that so I can live without the software. It's a commercial program which combines showing the tab and playing it for musicians - to help them learn the song. OK - so I go to Guitar Pro's website to figure out what this software is. ![]() Well, I found one - but in the form of a Guitar Pro tab file. So I went digging through google to find a tab for John Fahey's "St.
